Douglas Abbot (Netflix) is the main antagonist of Sweet Tooth from Season 1 - Season 2. He is a former U.S. Army soldier and officer, and the self-appointed general for the Last Men, a post-apocalyptic paramilitary army formed around a core of ex-military like himself.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Little is known of Abbot's early life. It can inferred that he served in the military as an officer of some rank before the Great Crumble, this is backed up by his extreme proficiency with firearms and close-quarters combat, as well as his leadership abilities, his literal army of personnel and arsenal of weapons, equipment, and technology. His father was abusive, and Abbot mentions his brother, Johnny, hiding under the bed whenever they heard him come home. Abbot then killed him, and took Johnny with him when he left, presumably to start the Last Men.

Rise to power[]

Much like his early life it is unknown how exactly he rose to become leader of the ex-military group, the Last Men. though its undoubtably linked to his military background.

Leading the Last Men and the Search for a Cure[]

A team of Last Men personally led by their overall commander, Abbot himself, tracked Doctor Gladys Bell to her home after her unapproved "retirement" from their research program, and subsequently killed her.

After running low on hybrid test subjects, they sent a note that denied the Singh family's anonymous request for more shipments of the hybrid-extract-based experimental treatments secretly used by Rani Singh to abate "The Sick" within her body.

After murdering her, the Last Men learned that before her demise, Gladys Bell had given her research notes to her colleague, the doctor and medical researcher Aditya Singh, in hopes that he could finish the research she had begun.

Subsequently, General Douglas Abbot and his men simultaneously saved both the research notes from destruction and the Singhs from their execution by immolation by their now hostile townsfolk,

In a cunning deception by Abbot himself, The Last Men took into their possession not only a replacement head researcher in the form of Doctor Singh but also the experimental data need to continue the work. Unfortunately, the shortage of test subjects remained a stumbling block in their efforts to research a cure to the H5G9 Virus.

Undaunted, the General sought to remedy this problem and secure more hybrids for their research efforts and so set their sights on the famed hybrid-sheltering Preserve of Aimee Eden. A company of Last Men soldiers, once again led by General Abbot from the front, launched a successful military operation to conquer and secure the facilities. though they did suffer moderate casualties due to Eden's booby traps. The paramilitaries are currently using the former zoo as their new headquarters and as their main research laboratory for leading the charge in their quest for a cure to "The Sick".

Personality[]

General Abbot comes across as being rather friendly and polite, but as it is quickly revealed, he is ruthless, merciless and sometimes cruel and who does what it takes to get what he desires, even if that means killing others. Even so, this ruthlessness and cruelty is born of not only of selfishness but of selflessness. On one hand he is villainous and has taken advantage of the collapse of society to reinvent himself and claim power, and he revels in his vaulted position, but he also is altruistic, and he truly believes he is "the good guy of the story" a loyal soldier only trying to help restore his country.

Abbot is ultimately a complicated individual who leads through wit, intimidation and quirkiness, but lead he does, for good or ill.

Abilities[]

Leadership[]

As a former military commander, Douglas Abbot is adept at commanding both individuals and groups of men.

Strategy[]

Befitting his military background , Douglas Abbot is a long term planner filled with vision and purpose.

Manipulation[]

In addition to his military skills, Abbot is perceptive and manipulative. Not only did he realize Singh was lying to him, he pretended to be unaware of his deception in order to manipulate Singh into working for him, despite Singh's extreme reluctance to do so.

Combat Proficiency[]

As a former soldier and officer, Abbot is an expert with armed and unarmed combat.

Weaknesses[]

Arrogance and Overconfidence[]

With the resources and personnel at his command and an implied high success rate, Abbot can come off as arrogant, though not unjustifiably so. It was this overconfidence that allowed Aimee Eden to distract him through conversation long enough to trigger her firework-based booby traps, which led to the death of many Last Men and the injury of Abbot himself and a number of others.
